See I think we need the time to lay out exactly what went wrong. As you say, we all "know" about the mismanagement etc. but thinking and saying it doesn't mean it is true. I think we need the time in order to examine the structures and see if we can clearly, and with evidence, apportion blame. I fully believe that that will result in Eddie taking the flak.
Or at least that that is what should happen.

However with any organization there is a certain amount of "protect your own" and I often feel it must be doubly present in an organization such as the IRFU, which is known for the whole "who you know" rather that what you know.

This is all what I'd like to happen. But what do I think will happen? The same old same old. Eddie will stay, the problem will be glossed over. Alternative players will not be brought through into the squad, or if they are they won't be used, and in four years time we'll be lucky to even think about progressing past the pool stage. Depending on whether or not we have to qualify for the next world cup.

Hi Fence, thanks for the comment.

I don't think there's anything knee-jerk about it. Why do we need to wait? What is there to think through? It's obvious that Eddie mismanaged the squad of 30 and tactical selections. The entire population of the country, along with most other rugby playing nations know that's the case. And we also know he's responsible for not developing the greater Ireland squad over the past 6 years.

Why should we give them time? That's what Eddie and the IRFU want - Stan even said it bluntly in his recent interview - they're waiting for something bigger to hit the papers so they can ride out the storm and then continue their cushy number. The Irish fans get screwed over.

Doing an FAI on it.

F**k that.

I agree with so much of that. But at the same time I think that firing Eddie right now shrieks of a knee-jerk reaction. And that, imo, is the last thing we need. At the moment all we really have going for us is that there is time to think things through. Time is all we have.

So let the IRFU take their time about it, once the procedure is obvious to all, let all the fans see what they are doing rather than hiding it away. In the end, if that were to happen, I'm sure that they would be forced to let Eddie go.

Maybe all the fans should band together and put up a few quid for the renaming of Lansdowne, I think that "The Fire Eddie" stadium has a nice ring to it.

I'm also busy hoping that players who didn't perform at the RWC don't come home and get their provincial places back straight away. how demoralising would that be for those who have been playing well in the Magners so far.
